PERSIAN HISTORY:
The Persian Empire at its peak in 490 BC covered most of the known world. It covered a portion of the Earth from Southern Greece to Northern Egypt around the Mediterranean and all the way to Northern India in the East.
Persia was united (mostly through conquest) by Cyrus II the Great around 550 BC and was made the first Shah of the Persian Kingdom. Interestingly enough, two of the larger portions of what was to become Persia were Sargon's empire of Assyria and Nebuchadnezzar's Empire of Babylon.
In Rise & Fall, one Persian hero, Sargon, is actually an Assyrian who annexed the region of Parsuash where the Persians originate. The other hero, Nebuchadnezzar I, was the ruler of Babylonia, also later assumed by Cyrus under the Persian Empire. Their military exploits are legion, however - Sargon having united, under Assyria, much of what would later become Persia; and Nebuchadnezzar defeating the Elamites to build Babylonia. |
